Quick FBM tweaks to win more buy boxes and profit in Q4

It’s officially FBM season for Q4.

If you’re going to run any Merchant-Fulfilled inventory over the next few weeks, here’s the right order of ops so you don’t waste time and you grab the extra profit that Q4 makes available.

1. First: make sure the listing is actually FBM / buy-box friendly

Before you FBM anything, check whether FBM even has a real shot on that listing:

  • If a listing has zero FBM sellers, you have basically no chance to win the buy box.

Rule of Thumb: if a listing has a mix of FBA and FBM sellers, you’d like to see FBM sellers get at least 20% buy box share.

Bonus pricing note: If a listing is all FBM sellers and you’re coming in FBA, you can price 5–10% higher and still win because Prime beats speed anxiety.

2. Then: move handling time to 0

If you can realistically ship same/next day, set handling time to 0 on Amazon.

Why this matters:

  • You’ll display faster delivery dates to shoppers

  • Amazon usually rewards that with more buy box shares

This is one of the easiest Q4 levers you’ve got. You can also do this for just a limited time to test, and move it back to 2 if you are more comfortable with that setting.

3. Now: update your FBM shipping templates on Amazon for peak season.

Peak season buyers will pay more for speed, so don’t use off-peak rates right now.

Off-peak template:

  • $30 + $1/lb for Next Day / 2-Day / Expedited

Peak template (right now):

  • $40 + $1/lb for Next Day / 2-Day / Expedited

Buyers pay a ton for fast shipping during Q4. That extra $10 per order stacks up fast and goes straight into your profit.

4. Use this quick shipping math while sourcing

Before you buy anything for FBM, estimate FBM costs by weight:

  • 0–3 oz: $3.50 – $4.50

  • 4–7 oz: $4.50 – $5.50

  • 8–11 oz: $5.00 – $6.50

  • 12–15 oz: $5.50 – $6.50

  • 1–3 lb: $9 – $13
